Winemaker Notes
The grapes originated from our estate property in Dry Creek Valley from our “Corner Pocket” vineyard. Harvest date was September 21, 2006. Sugar at harvest was 26.1 degrees brix; ph was 3.58. Immediately after crushing the grapes the juice underwent a 5% saigne to increase concentration. The wine was fermented in temperature controlled, stainless steel tanks. The tanks were pumped over twice a day. After malolactic fermentation, the new wine was racked to 60 gallon French and American oak barrels and aged for 15 months. After a light filtration, the total production of approximately 515 cases was bottled on May 15, 2008.
Tasting Notes
Our 2006 Syrah is a full-bodied, substantial wine with aromas of blackberry and leather and hints of herbs de provence. Flavors are of blackberry cobbler, sage, and black pepper with a touch of smoke. The wine has an inky purple color and exhibits full body with firm tannins and a long, flavorful finish.
