GRAPE SOURCE: The grapes for our 2019 Santa Rosa rosé came from the small Merlot vineyard directly in front of the Tasting Room on the Dry Creek Estate. The location of the vineyard is influenced by both the nighttime fogs flowing up the Russian River Valley and the afternoon heat from the warmer Dry Creek Valley. As with all Mill Creek wines, sustainable vineyard practices always take precedence to minimize environmental impact.
WINEMAKING: Harvest began well before dawn on September 27, 2019, while nighttime temperatures are at their lowest. The grapes were hand-picked and delivered to the winery just as the sun was rising in the eastern sky. The grapes were immediately crush and pressed and the juice transferred to a temperature-controlled stainless tank for a cold fermentation. The new wine was racked, filtered and bottled in March of 2020.
WINEMAKER NOTES: A bursting nose of rose petals with overtones of peach and warm spice is followed by corresponding flavors. Crisp, clean and fresh in the glass with firm acidity. A lingering pleasant finish makes this wine perfect for spring and summer sipping. Pair with ham, grilled salmon, or cheese and charcuterie.
