GRAPE SOURCE: Grapes for this luscious wine come from our Alexander Valley ranch where Bill and Yvonne Kreck live. Alexander Valley is well known as a premier region for Bordeaux varietals. Our 45-acre ranch, with gently rolling hills, has thin soils and a slightly sloping western exposure. Three separate blocks produce rich, ripe, concentrated fruit. Planted in 1991, the vines are now well established and mature.
WINEMAKING: Harvest was by hand, very early in the morning of September 9, 2017 so that the grapes were delivered to the winery while still cold. After a three-day cold soak the wine was fermented in stainless steel. After fermentation, the wine was aged in French oak for about 14 months. One hundred and forty seven cases were bottled on August 26, 2018.
WINEMAKER NOTES: A complex nose of mixed berries, plum and anise precedes flavors of silky plum and anise with overtones of spice. The wine is medium balanced and silky on the palate with a long lingering finish that is reflective of berries, plum and anise. The backbone of acid makes this a wine that will age well and evolve into a velvety sophisticated wine in a year or so. Wonderful paired with traditional lasagna, Beef Stroganoff or bleu cheese. |
