GRAPE SOURCE: Our Chardonnay comes from the estate property in Southern Dry Creek Valley. The vines are meticulously farmed to yield concentrated berries with intense Chardonnay fruit characteristics. Our location at the southern end of Dry Creek provides ample cool fog from our neighboring Russian River Valley.
WINEMAKING: Harvest was early in the morning of Sept. 24, 2019, so that the grapes were delivered to the winery while still cold. They were immediately crushed, allowed to settle for 3 days and then inoculated with “cross evolution” yeast and then fermented 33% in barrel and the rest in temperature controlled stainless steel. Using the stainless-steel tanks allowed for a long slow fermentation, which produced a multi-layered wine and one that allows the chardonnay fruit to shine through. After aging and blending, the wine was bottled on March 19, 2020.
WINEMAKER NOTES: : Our 2019 Chardonnay is a silky, layered, lightly oaked wine. It begins with notes of ripe mango, pear and apple. Flavors are of mango, apple, pear and honeysuckle. The finish is bright and long, showing ripe mango, mandarin orange and mineral, with a touch of vanilla and a hint of butter. |
