This fruit is hand harvested from a family estate in the southern Dry Creek Valley, in the early morning hours before the crisp air has lifted and while light has not yet broke into day. The fruit arrived at the winery in excellent condition; bright, round and juicy clusters. This fruit is 100% destemmed and hand sorted where it then made its way to a smaller fermentation vessel. This Zinfandel is punched down three times a day throughout primary fermentation. Once primary fermentation was completed, this Zinfandel was pressed and barrel into mostly neutral oak but does feature 30% new oak. This wine was barrel aged for 16 months and blended together with select barrels to combine the beauty and nuance of this bright and incredibly balanced Zinfandel.
This carefully curated Zinfandel is rich with the aromas of fresh alpine strawberries, brown sugar and hibiscus, with a mild rosemary scent that lingers throughout the glass. This Zinfandel is well balanced transfused with a medium tannic structure, tasteful acidity and mild notes of spice developing throughout the finish. At first taste, this wine harbors a wonderfully fresh and slightly mature taste of strawberry fruit leather, black tea and a subtle pine wood. Our Dry Creek Valley Zin showcases the delicate balance in wine to be bright, spicy and complimented by earthy notes. This Zinfandel pairs beautifully with roasted delicata squash and mushroom penne, a summer barbeque favorite and even chocolate devil’s food cake.
