WINEMAKER NOTES
Our 2018 Merlot was grown on the Kreck estate in southern Alexander Valley. Western facing, gentle sloping vineyards provide warm summer heat which evolves into berries with bold Merlot characteristics. The grapes were hand-picked in the cool early morning, transported to our winery in Dry Creek Valley and then sorted. The clusters were de-stemmed and fermented using BDX yeast in stainless steel after a 5-day cold soak. During fermentation, the wine was pumped over 2 to 3 times per day. Following fermentation, the wine was aged in French oak (1/3 new) for 15 months before being bottled on August 8th, 2020.
TASTING NOTES
The nose of this Merlot shows ripe Bing Cherry and tobacco with a hint of allspice. The taste is of bold spice and Bing cherry and suggestions of Mission fig. The finish is long and has lingering spice. Try with a pork roast served with rosemary roasted potatoes.
