Our 45 acre Alexander Valley ranch has been in the family for over 60 years. Located in the southern part of the valley, the rolling hills have ideal soils to stress the Bordeaux varietals planted there. After harvest, the Merlot clusters are gently de-stemmed and then filled into stainless steel tanks. Preceding the fermentation is a 3-5 day cold soak. The must is then inoculated with yeast and mixed 2-3 times per day to extract flavors, color, and tannin from the skins. After pressing, the new wine is filled into 50% new French oak barrels and aged for approximately 18 months. This wine shows a complex nose of light toast, mixed berries, and a touch of vanilla, which precede flavors of blackberries & ripe plums. The wine starts big and sweet on the palate. It is layered and muscular but finishes with a pleasing softness. Pair with braised meats, lamb dishes, flavorful cheeses or hearty appetizers.
